How the PGA Tour plans to finish the 2024 Wyndham Championship on Sunday

The PGA Tour plans to complete all four rounds of the 2024 Wyndham Championship on schedule, despite going into Sunday with a host of players still having to complete their second rounds, and the cut still having to be made as a result.

Constant weather delays at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina have caused havoc with the tournament, which was due to begin on Thursday but actually got underway on Friday. More delays mean 22 players must finish their second rounds on Sunday morning, after which the cut will be made.

But if you think that means there’s no chance of a winner being crowned on Sunday, then you’re wrong. Or the PGA Tour thinks you’re wrong, at least. They believe the cut can take place and the champion can lift the trophy on the very same day.

Veteran Matt Kuchar leads the way on -12, one stroke clear of Chad Ramey, Max Greyserman and Cameron Young. Billy Horschel, Aaron Rai and Beau Hossler are a shot further back. Big-name stars including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele aren’t taking part.

2024 Wyndham Championship: order of play, tee times on Sunday

The second round will resume at 6:45 a.m. ET on Sunday, with third-round tee times scheduled for 7:50 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. ET. Players will go out in groups of three and are expected to play 36 holes straight, without regrouping between rounds three and four, which organisers hope will allow all four rounds to be completed on an action-packed Sunday.

According to CBS, the PGA Tour estimates the last group would need to begin their final round at around 3:10 p.m. ET to be able to get the whole tournament finished.

Of course, everything will depend on the weather, which has caused the scheduling problems all along. Sunday’s forecast is for partly cloudy skies, with a 20% chance of rain. Any further delays will almost certainly ensure a Monday finish, and let’s not even think about the possibility of a playoff.
