Caped Crusader’ Dethroned In Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 List By A New Show

I was impressed Batman: Caped Crusader made it to the top of Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 list as a niche animated take on the classic hero, but I was happy to see it. Now, it has been unseated by a much larger Amazon series that is back to #1.

You may be able to guess that it’s The Boys, which only recently wrapped up its fourth season, and it’s a big enough series where people are almost certainly still catching up on it. Amazon Prime Video only has big series every so often, so you see a lot of familiar names in the top 10 list for a long while. Fallout, for instance, has hung out inside the top 5 for months now. I rarely see Reacher off the list…ever, and let me know, yep, it’s currently #10.

The show is extremely highly rated by critics, a 95% with 61 reviews in, stellar for an Amazon series in particular. However, it has drawn a measure of weird controversy from a certain sect of Batman fans who object to “race-swapping” of certain characters, or the inclusion of things like lesbian relationships in a ‘40s period piece like this. It does in fact have significantly different takes on characters like Penguin (now a woman with two idiot sons) and Harley Quinn (an Asian therapist who has no transformative moment of insanity nor any connection to Joker), but that’s sort of the point as it attempts to have new takes on old favorites. “Traditional” Harley Quinn has four full seasons of a show they can watch. Regardless, the show is well liked by professionals and clearly well-watched, given its placement at #1 on all of Prime Video for a while.

There is no question about season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader as one is already greenlit and on the way, as it had gotten a two-season order in the first place. We don’t know when that second season is coming out, but hopefully we are not going to get a ridiculous Invincible-style gap between seasons, nor an Invincible-like plan to break up a season in half with a months-long break.

As for the rest of the list, there is a returning show that’s doing well, with Season 3 of the Mallorca Files is at #3 on the list. Below that we have new seasons of The Serpent Queen at #7 and Troppo at #8, not the highest profile of shows, but more watched than uh, last year’s Reacher, I guess. We’ll see about further renewals for those.

Watch Batman: Caped Crusader, it’s excellent and deserves its great performance and high scores here.
