USWNT soccer star Lynn Williams says she broke her gold medal while partying at Paris Olympics

Lynn Williams celebrated a little too hard after the U.S. women’s national soccer team won at the Olympics this month, saying Wednesday that her gold medal was a casualty of her dance floor shenanigans.

Williams, a forward with the team, was filming herself in her kitchen when she shared with fans on TikTok that the medal didn’t survive the squad’s post-game party. She was part of the team’s undefeated run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ultimately beating Brazil 1-0 in the final match.

The 31-year-old joked that she turned the award into the world’s “most expensive coaster.”

The medal once had a bar attached that held the ribbon that went around her neck, but that’s no longer the case.

“Obviously, you guys all saw me swinging the thing around…ironically that’s not how it broke,” Williams said.

It seemingly happened while she dancing at the Nike celebration party with the medal strapped around her shoulder, “like a little purse,” she said.

“And I was just jumping — dancing, jumping — and I jumped down, and it just fell off,” Williams said. “So everybody was dancing, and I was roaming around trying to get my medal off the ground.”

She tilted the medal to show fans the dent, describing it as “one-of-a-kind” now due to the damage. According to Williams, her team contacted International Olympic Committee and submitted proof of the damage for a potential repair or replacement.

“But I just think that they should have made these better,” Williams joked. “They should have made them more sturdy, and honestly, I can’t be faulted for that.”
