Rebecca Lynn Hammon is an established Russian-American basketball coach and former player. She is currently the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA. Born on March 11, 1977, in Rapid City, South Dakota, Hammon began her basketball journey at Stevens High School and then joined Colorado State University for college basketball. During the 1999 season, she appeared as an All-American and was named Colorado State Sportswoman of the Year. Hammon’s college performance led her team to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. In 2004, she was inducted into the Colorado State Sports Hall of Fame for her contributions to college basketball.
Hammon geared up for her WNBA career in 1999 with the New York Liberty before moving on to the San Antonio Silver Stars. Throughout her WNBA career, she was named two-time All-WNBA First Team and 6 times WNBA All-Star. In 2008, Hammon received Russian citizenship, which gave her permission to represent Team Russia in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Currently, as a head coach, she became a two-time WNBA champion.
